2023 Kia Forte

The Kia Forte strikes a balance between comfort and capability. The 2.0L 4-cylinder engine provides efficient power for commutes and errands, while the Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) delivers smooth acceleration and impressive fuel economy – up to 39 mpg on the highway. Standard 16-inch alloy wheels offer a touch of sophistication and confident handling. When it’s time to load up, the 60/40 split-folding rear seats offer versatility for cargo and passengers.

On the technology front, the Kia Forte keeps you connected and informed. An 8-inch touchscreen display serves as the hub for your entertainment and navigation needs, while Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ allow seamless integration of your smartphone. A rear-view monitor with dynamic parking guidance takes the stress out of parking, and a suite of Kia Drive Wise Driver Assist Technologies like Lane Following Assist and Driver Attention Warning provides peace of mind on the road.

Plus, you won’t have to fight for parking spots thanks to its nimble dimensions. Kona is a champion of value, with even the base trims boasting features like smartphone connectivity, forward collision warning, and heated front seats for comfort. Craving more excitement? Spring for a higher trim and unleash the power of a turbocharged engine. Conquer any terrain with available all-wheel drive, and enjoy the smooth ride with the new addition for 2020 – adaptive cruise control.

2018 Buick Regal

The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback is a unique blend of unexpected features. With sleek lines that resemble a sedan, it offers surprising hatchback functionality with ample cargo space, rivaling even some SUVs. Though branded with the American Buick emblem, its design is rooted in the European Opel Insignia. While some surprises are delightful, others are less so. The V6 Regal GS, for example, might appear sporty, but its handling doesn’t quite match its looks (we’ll delve deeper into the GS in a separate review). Despite this, the Regal Sportback carves out a niche between everyday family sedans and luxurious European hatchbacks. Its price and interior lean towards the former, while its design and performance hint at the latter.

2016 Chevrolet Malibu

The 2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid puts safety first, offering a range of features to keep you and your passengers protected. Ten airbags, including driver and passenger knee airbags, surround the cabin for all-around defense in a collision. Child seat anchors and child door locks ensure your little ones are securely in place. Driver-assistance systems like stability control, traction control, and blind-spot alert provide extra support behind the wheel. The lane departure warning system helps prevent unintentional lane changes, and the collision warning system keeps you aware of potential frontal impacts. Parking is a breeze with front and rear parking sensors and a rear view camera, giving you a clear view while maneuvering. For added peace of mind, the Malibu Hybrid also includes a parental control system and emergency and security services that can connect you to help when needed.

2014 Buick Verano

The Buick Verano prioritizes a comfortable and quiet ride over sporty handling, making it a strong choice for drivers who value a relaxing driving experience. Unlike many competitors in the compact sedan class, the Verano boasts a suspension that effectively absorbs bumps, creating a smooth ride. Additionally, the well-insulated cabin minimizes outside noise. While the base 4-cylinder engine offers adequate power, the turbocharged option delivers a significant boost in acceleration without sacrificing much fuel efficiency. Although the turbocharged model offers slightly better handling, it’s not designed for aggressive cornering. The brakes on the test car, however, were reported to have a soft feel and could be more responsive.

2014 Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta offers a comfortable and controlled ride, thanks to its European chassis that translates well to American roads. It handles curves and windy roads with impressive balance and responsiveness, making driving enjoyable. While the base 4-cylinder engine might feel a bit sluggish, Ford addressed that in 2014 with two EcoBoost options. The 3-cylinder engine prioritizes fuel efficiency but still provides good power, while the 1.6-liter engine in the ST model offers a class-leading 197 horsepower, further enhanced by a stiffer suspension and sharper steering. The standard transmission is a 5-speed manual, with a 6-speed in the ST for optimal acceleration. There’s also a 6-speed automatic available, but it doesn’t have a manual shift option.
